Tick 1 :
Fresh from a Stanley Cup Champions title and a couple FA signs, the Maple Leafs started their season versus long-time rival, the Montreal Canadiens. They lost to them 3-1 even tho Toronto dominated 34-13 the shots. M-A Fleury had a really bad game, and the offense couldn't capitalize.
The Leafs hosted the Ottawa Senators in the first of six games of this big Ontario rivalty. Toronto was leading 3-1 early in the 3rd period when everything collapsed. In a minute, Fleury let in a softy (reallllly bad goal) and then Kulikov accidently put the puck in his net. It's all of a sudden tied at 3, and the Sens had the game going their way from this point. It finished 7-3 in favor of Ottawa, and GM Laff12 was raging after this game in his office : he called about 5 or 6 teams hoping that one of them has interest in Fleury. Some people might say it's too early but everyone in Toronto know that Fleury always give softies in unappropriate moments (no consistency).
Looking to bounce back versus Pittsburgh in their 3rd game of the tick, the Leafs started with Alex Auld in nets. The team was able to manage good offense and Auld was solid : Toronto won 4-0 and Auld got a 23 saves shutout.
After this 3 game homestand, the Leafs were on the road, visiting the Capitals at the Verizon Center in D.C. Alex Auld had a 2nd straight start and he only let 1 goal by him, a beauty from Derrick Brassard, former Leafs (now WSH). Evgeni Malkin completed his hat trick late in the 3rd period to get Toronto a 5-1 W and get back to .500.
Record after tick 1 : 2-2-0
